I always try to offer my kids chances to practice writing... Sometimes just a simple stripe of paper or a nice tracing activity I previously laminated seems to work really well. Laminating usually does the trick: if you laminate what you prepare, your kids can do it over and over again. Finger tracing is also fun, by the way :)
